Hackney Council are seeking views on a proposal to introduce a Special Policy Area (SPA) in Dalston - going up as far as the Stoke Newington Road/Evering Road junction in Stoke Newington.
A SPA is used to help to manage the night time economy in areas where there are a large concentration of late night venues. It can also help the council to work with the Police and licensees
to manage the impact of these areas on residents and visitors.
not aiming to stop new businesses or put an end to the vibrant night
time economy in this area (which as local residents we enjoy too!) but
instead make sure that when late licenses are applied for, the
applicants demonstrate that they can run their venues responsibly and
not contribute to cumulative impacts of public nuisance, anti social
behaviour and noise in the local area.
The proposed SPA will stretch from Stoke Newington High Street down to
the junction of Middleton Road and Kingsland Road in De Beauvoir (map).
We welcome this consultation - we
are frequently contacted by local residents who are disturbed by venues
on the A10 that are failing to adhere to the terms of the premises
licenses. Please to take the time to fill in the online survey here.
There is a drop-in sessions this weekend for residents and businesses to find out more: Saturday 28 September , 10am - 4pm at Kingsland Shopping Centre, Kingsland High Street, E8 2NE.
