Fighting the cuts
We were out today on Church Street holding a street stall to inform local residents about the government's cuts and how they will affect Hackney.
Diane Abbott MP and Jennette Arnold AM joined local councillors, helping to hand out leaflets about the effects of the cuts and what we can do to fight them.
Government cuts to local authority budgets are devastating and mean that Hackney Council’s funding will be cut by £44m in 2011/12 alone. Hackney was one of the worst affected local authorities in the country. In the past, areas like Hackney have received extra funding for good reason—to help the Council tackle the high level of social need in the Borough.
We were also building support for the TUC march on 26th March. More details here.
