Improving recycling in Hackney

Hackney Council has recently been awarded funding to improve recycling in flats and high rise properties in the Borough. The funding from the London Waste and Recycling Board has been allocated across London and in total, is expected to divert 41,000 tonnes of waste from landfill.

In Hackney, there are a large number of high rise properties, and recycling rates tend to be lower. The extra funding will mean that the Council can supple residents in 50,000 flats with reusable bags to transport recyclables down to communal recycling facilities. This will help to incentivise recycling and make it easier for residents.
