Bringing empty shops back to life

Hackney Council has been working hard to support local businesses during the credit crunch - recognising the importance of encouraging people to shop locally on our high streets.
Hackney is taking part in a pilot programme to bring empty shops back into use, working with local businesses and residents. The scheme has just received £50,000 funding from the Labour government.
If you are interested in getting involved - please email craig.morrison@hackney.gov.uk with 'Hackney Empty Shops Fund' in the title and include your name, address, contact details and the nature of your project (eg Art space, community project etc).

The Savoy cafe on Graham Road in E8 is an example of bringing shops back into use - there is an art exhibition on over the bank holiday weekend.

  1. Thanks for this post. It sounds like an amazing scheme. Do you know if Hackney Council have any further plans for carrying this on into 2010?
