Consultation on Church Street improvements

Hackney Council has been working on proposals to improve Church Street - creating a cleaner, safer and de-cluttered street for all residents and visitors to enjoy. The proposals include:
  • Reducing the speed limit between Albion Road and the A10 to 20mph
  • Measures on side roads such as entry treatments and kerb build outs to encourage vehicles to slow down and make it easier for pedestrians and motorists to see clearly
  • A new pavement
  • A new road surface between Albion Road and Wilmer Place
  • Removing street clutter such as signs and bollards
  • Increasing the number of cycle stands
  • Planting more street trees
The plans will be on display at Abney Public Hall on Church Street on 21st July from 6-8pm and a leaflet is being distributed to surrounding streets and businesses.

Following the consultation, works will start in August and be completed by December 2009.
