About Stoke Newington ward

Following a review by the Local Government Boundary Commission, the wards in Hackney are changing. Stoke Newington Central ward will continue to exist up until May 2014, and from that point onwards the new wards will be in place.

The new ward of Stoke Newington corresponds most closely with the old Stoke Newington Central ward. It will be one of 21 wards in the London Borough of Hackney. You can see a map of the new wards here.

The north of the ward includes Abney Park Cemetery, and part of Stoke Newington Church Street. The ward is then split down the middle by the A10, running from the junction with Manor Road to Farleigh Road.  The southern boundary of the ward is Brighton Road and Farleigh Road.

There are two primary schools in Stoke Newington - William Patten on Church Street and Grazebrook School on Lordship Road. Stoke Newington Police Station is on the High Street.

There are three small estates in the area - Yorkshire Grove, Smalley Road and Lordship North, alongside smaller blocks scattered across the ward.

Stoke Newington High Street and Church Street are home to many shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, and is a great place to eat and enjoy yourself.

The ward profile for the old Stoke Newington Central based on the 2011 census can be dowloaded here.

Stoke Newington is in the Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency, represented in Parliament by Labour MP, Diane Abbott.
